Kabuto
2025
Abstract
Kabuto is a vacuum wine stopper conceived as both a protective object and a precision-engineered device. Its morphology draws from the traditional samurai helmet, a symbol of physical and spiritual protection, translating its layered construction into a contemporary technological artefact. Injection-moulded and assembled through a system of precision interlocking parts, Kabuto eliminates unnecessary fasteners while integrating function directly into its architecture. The coloured rings feature laser micro-engraving to enhance grip, while their metallic coatings provide an intuitive coding system for identifying different bottles. At its core, a patented trilobed valve uses geometry itself as a filtration mechanism. It can separate wine residues and fine particles without disposable filters or delicate meshes, avoiding the clogging and gradual loss of performance typical of conventional filtration systems.
